Interesting idea for expanding menus

This guys idea is to measure the available height and dynamically load more menu modules if space permits.

How do I love thee

Filed under: WebDev — bozo @ 7:00 pm

So.

I was reading good old ‘Not Invented Here’ today and the lads had posted a blog-o-news type bit that was mentioning the authors rediscovery of VIM.

Being a long term devotee of VIM (though still a padwan by neck beard standards) I was pleased to see that someone had finally done a decent version of MacVim which is available over at google code.

Klaxons – Myths of the near future

The vocalist has a bit of Franz Ferdinand going on. Musically it’s kind of a prog pop sandwich with some old school rave sounds thrown in to boot.

An interesting brew. Not really my cup of tea though. By the end of the album I was pretty happy it was over.

The Beatles – Rubber Soul

Hard to believe that after all these years of hearing The Beatles I’ve not sat and listened through their albums as a single piece of work. Sure, I’ve heard all the songs at one time or another but it’s not the same.

Quite like this album. There is a personal favourite track in “Nowhere Man” on offer which is always a nice. Compared to the rest of their own catalog however if lacks the same consistent awesomeness of some of their other albums.

M.I.A – Kala

The first track has a gratuitous Sex Pistols reference and another track has Pixies lyrics. One way to get my attention.

The album itself sounds like a bit more fringe version of an English Missy Elliot. Lots of different musical influences and a strong political lyric at least make for an interesting listen if nothing else.

Not going to be a daily listener but will definitely get a spin when I’m in the right mood.

NOTE: having now listened to this album a few times any charm it ever had has worn off.

Korn – Follow The Leader

Pus. The first couple of tracks tricked me into thinking this album wasn’t as bad as I remembered. It is.

Radiohead – In Rainbows

Not a bad album. As good as most of the other non classic Radiohead stuff. Pity this is one of those bands, like the Beatles, that music critics feel the need to praise the collective works of. Even when a given piece of their work isn’t better than average.

Justice - (Cross)

Didn’t really know what to expect from this one. Being that it is one of the most recent works on the list there is no telling if it’s a seminal work or one thrown on because it’s popular at the time. As it turns out it’s quite creative. Think The Avalanches meets Daft Punk.

On Linus

“Part of the problem is that ‘git’ is such a flexible tool that you can use it in various modes, and mix things up freely. The whole distributed nature means that there’s no gatekeeper, you can do whatever you want. And the flexibility and power is good, but it does mean that it’s also easy to make a mess of it – the old UNIX philosophy of giving people rope, and letting them hang themselves with it if they want to.”

On Your Bash History

Filed under: Foo — bozo @ 7:34 pm

There has been about eleventy billion times I’ve done something at work on a *nix system and then a few days later wondered what/when/how/why I did it. This little tip I found goes some way to helping this eternal headache by appending a date to the entries in your .bash_history

The basic gist is you just vim your .bashrc and append the line

 export HISTTIMEFORMAT=”%h/%d – %H:%M:%S “

Then exit and the next time you login all your dreams will have come true*.

The full article can be found Here

* This assumes all your dreams comprise of dates prepended to the display of each command and you haven’t killed yourself for having such a sad arse dream.
